I thought we’d go with a theme that was potentially less narrative-based and more texture and scaley. Well, that was the idea!
People were very struck by this picture by Elaine – capturing the fabric beautifully with a well-executed tricky shot. It’s just the kind of thing I was looking for:
Canon 60D, 79mm equivalent, f4.5, 1/200th, ISO 2000. We love the way you can see the window in the background, but how it’s not obtrusive.
I wasn’t entirely sure about this theme, to be honest. It was a blatant attempt to get a few narrative-driven pictures. Themes that seem to have grabbed the attention are the National Lottery and camel/eye of needle combinations. Also a slightly defeatist view of abstinence – fair enough!
Picture of the month came from Elaine, although as you can see at this resolution the picture is a little out of focus. We particularly like the aspirational backdrop to this hopeful purchase, and the shallow depth of field putting the emphasis on the ticket. This is the kind of picture that works really well on social media – clear even when really small!
Canon 60D, 80mm equiv, f4, 1/160th, 400ISO
A genuine variety of photographs this month – not just the expected candle flames.
Man of the match this time goes to David for this fine shot – the colours and composition are superb here. Nikon D610 (full frame), 85mm f3.5, 1/125th, 1800 ISO. (It must have been pretty dark, if you think about it!)
