DSLR course at Chatsworth (Also soggy!)

DSLR photography course ChatsworthWe’re not put off by a bit of bad weather, and usually when it’s rainy, there are a few dry spells to get out in…..well, not today! It literally didn’t stop at all! But hey,ho off we went to Chatsworth eager to see the 60 Rolls Royces to celebrate each year of the Queen’s reign (rain?!!). We had a good sized group who were determined to get to grips with their camera’s, and get off the automatic modes and learn what all the knobs and switches do. Practicing shallow / deep depth of field was the order of the day. Also in such grey conditions, white balance can improve colours too. The gardens are beautiful, and the giant step water feature is always popular with our students! There were still crowds there, but perhaps the saddest sight was a giant, long table with balloons for the Jubilee celebrations which was empty…and chairs full of water. And as we always say…nice weather for ducks!

Soggy Creative Photography course at Chatsworth

Well, we had a great time at Chatsworth on 3rd June….but it poured down all day long! It’s really hard to imagine the heatwave last Sunday when we were at Charlecote Park! As usual, we started off at the Rutland Arms Hotel in Bakewell, and challenged with the job of the day…to create a piece of Art that they would be proud to hang on the wall! No pressure there, then! After photographing ordinary objects in an extraordinary way, we all set off for Chatsworth. What an amazing spectacle…there were 60 Rolls Royces one for each year of the Queen’s reign. Fantastic photo opportunities, but such a shame to see everyone so glum and wet (the visitor’s, not our students!).  As per usual, the 6 students (plus baby Lucas and Granny), went off with jobs to do. Subjects such as: curves, reflections, tiny, hidden world, growth etc. We are proud of our students, and there wasn’t one single moan about the weather. It was also bitterly cold as well as very wet. Off they went like Whippets, and relished the challenge. We sheltered in the greenhouses for a while, which also presented an opportunity for experimenting with white balance and tricky shutter speeds. The amazing steps of water was a great source of inspiration too. Back at the Hotel, drenched, but warmed by cups of tea, we had a great time reviewing the masterpieces! This group was particularly supportive of each other, and rounds of applause was enjoyed by all! Well done guys!Creative photography course at Chatworth in the rain

Lovely to see Chatsworth on the BBC last night – we saw them filming this a few times. You can see how the team spirit is built up among the workers, and it’s great to see behind the scenes.

One-to-one tuition in Derby

Rachel had a great time with two lovely ladies today near Derby….the sun was shining, and a productive day was had by all! It’s always nice to be with people in their own environment to learn at their own pace and concentrate on aspects of their camera’s/photography interests etc.with no pressure.  We covered aperture, shutter, depth of field, white balance etc. Carol was chuffed to learn how to blur the background, and get that professional look! Sally took an amazing free-frame photo of water! Well done both of you!
