Photography Courses Surrey
Hatchlands Park, England
For photography courses Surrey has Hatchlands Park, a beautiful red-brick country house with surrounding gardens in East Clandon covering more than 400 acres.
It is located near Guildford along the A246 between West Clandon and West Horsley. For more details and how to get there see their website. We have even been able to use the parkland in the Winter, when the House is closed to the public. When the house is open there is a delightful cafe in the grounds. We usually have small groups at this particular venue for photography courses, which gives an opportunity for more individual tuition and relaxed classes. The parkland, trees and lake are great for developing landscape composition, and there great trees for Ansel Adams-style intimate landscapes.
Hatchlands is very convenient for Guildford and the M25 in largely unspoilt countryside. The mansion is set in informal grounds, with one small parterre garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll. The property website has a lovely blog.
The surrounding parkland provides a number of waymarked walks in a tranquil and beautiful setting making it a lovely place for all kinds of photography. It also houses a remarkable collection of musical instruments – some of which were actually owned or played by great composers such as Purcell, J.C. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mahler and Elgar. For photography courses Surrey Hatchlands Park has great parkland and has cows and calves, who make great portrait subjects, as do the fallen trees and magnificent oaks. It can be a little muddy in the Winter, but it’s worth it. We often find that bad weather and good photos go together (and it keeps everyone else away), but photographers need to be prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.
