How to take good pictures in snow

Often when people photograph the snow the pictures come out a dirty grey, and the brilliant white has been lost.
This is caused by the camera thinking that all that light means the scene is too bright and reducing the exposure. The way to get around this is to increase exposure slightly – 1 to 2 stops. You can do this with the +/- exposure compensation button.

It feels weird to set it to +1, but remember you are compensating for the camera’s over-compensation! In effect telling it – “it’s ok, it’s supposed to be this bright”
